Chartered Membership Programme (CMP)
Course start dates – February and October 2025
Mode of study – Via live online webinars, recorded tutorial sessions, and written materials, all provided via our online portal.
We appreciate that candidates are usually in full time employment, often with additional personal commitments, and subsequently find the time and costs of travelling to venues challenging. This course is designed to provide a convenient and cost-effective method of working towards Chartered Membership status whilst ensuring that candidates feel supported with their studies. Interactive webinars create the virtual classroom environment, and an on-line Teams group chat provides the peer-to-peer interaction which we know aids learning and results.

Course main learning objectives –
- Understand the law in relation to the construction industry.
- Effectively administer construction contracts and disputes.
- Manage the procurement process and commercial risks.
- Apply the relevant legislation and standards to ensure health and safety on site.
- Demonstrate knowledge of sustainable construction and its application.
- Analyse the design structures and detail the different design solutions.
- Manage time, resources and people on all types of projects.
- Identify problems, gather data and evaluate approaches.
- Make informed judgements by critically analysing information and data which may be incomplete.
- Communicate ideas, information, arguments and results.
The course consists of the following modules and topics:
Construction Technology
- Apply concepts in ground engineering techniques and substructure technology
- Critically evaluate the design and operation of a building’s superstructure.
- Examine and apply the principles of the installation of building services.
- Analyse the value of integrating off-site fabrication into a construction project
Management
- Analyse and solve problems related to the construction process.
- Critically evaluate how construction works are procured.
- Appraise the management of resources used on projects.
- Apply appropriate project planning and scheduling tools for construction projects.
- Appraise and evaluate the financial management of construction projects.
Construction Business Environment
- Critically evaluate the impact of legislation that falls within the responsibility of the construction manager.
- Appraise environmental concepts and how they apply to organisational strategy and policy formation.
- Evaluate and apply different performance management techniques within the construction industry.
Health, Safety and Welfare
- Apply the legal framework of Health and Safety to construction projects.
- Understand your role as a manager in promoting and enhancing the Health, Safety and wellbeing of all project stakeholders.
- Apply principles of risk management to enhance Health, Safety & Welfare on construction projects.
- Critically evaluate and deliver appropriate/enhanced HS&W practice & procedures to projects.

To ensure you gain the most benefit this insight, we have developed an additional Module to ensure you maximise your opportunity for success within the exam.

One-to-one course induction – We offer a one-to-one course induction to all candidates following enrolment, to ensure you start the course effectively. This provides us with an opportunity to get to know you and your individual background, along with identifying if additional support may be needed.
Webinars – We schedule all live online webinars at weekends in order to help you follow the course while continuing to work. These interactive webinars provide you with direct tuition from the tutor and are an opportunity to check in with the rest of your cohort to ensure that you feel “on track” with each module. These webinars last an hour and are in a live virtual classroom format, ensuring you feel that you are in a friendly and safe environment, studying as part of a group rather than in isolation.
Bespoke guidance – You will have access to our comprehensive pack of bespoke guidance videos, documentation and templates that will help you produce a successful submission in a clear, step-by-step process to suit your pace of study.
Assignments – One written assignment will be set for each exam module and marked by your tutor. You will receive detailed, bespoke feedback and support based on each of your assignment submissions. This allows you to incrementally develop the skills and techniques required to succeed in the exam.
Study group – You will have access to a dedicated group chat via Microsoft Teams, that allows you to ask questions to the tutor and receive swift response/guidance. Also, you can use this chat to interact with fellow students on your course providing an opportunity for peer-to-peer learning and support between you and your classmates.
Your tutor – Steve will be your tutor throughout the course providing consistency and depth of experience.
Assessment – Assessment is made via an Open Book Exam which is carried out at the end of the programme. You will be provided with a construction project scenario and drawings and will answer 4 questions relating to the 4 exam modules. You will be given 10 days to submit your answer to the questions through the virtual learning environment, Moodle. This allows you to use the resources of your choice to complete your exam.
Successful completion of the assessment gives a Certificate of Attainment for your CPD record, and provides the academic recognition needed to undertake your professional review and apply for MCIOB.
We have a 100% overall pass rate for those that complete the course.
Cost - £1996.50 + VAT. This does not include the CIOB exam fee or membership fee which is paid direct to the CIOB.
