According to the latest CSCS Alliance figures, the number of skills cards issued to workers under 25 has jumped 8.8% (from 86,798 to 94,444 between 2023 and 2025). Under-25s now make up 19% of all cards issued, with particularly strong growth in skilled roles like plant operatives (+24.7%), electrotechnical (+15.6%), and plumbing/HVAC — where nearly 1 in 4 cards now go to young workers.

As CSCS Group Chief Executive Sean Kearns perfectly put it:

“More young people are choosing careers in construction than in recent years, across a broad range of occupations, and an increasing proportion are entering the sector with skilled and advanced qualifications. That is exactly the direction of travel the industry needs if it is to meet future workforce demands.”
