Qualification Aims and Objectives +
  • Provides access to the Black CSCS Card (Manager / Technical) and other industry-recognised credentials.
  • Unlocks access to professional body memberships such as MCIOB.
  • Offers a clear progression pathway to higher-level strategic management roles, or further qualifications in the built environment.
  • Allows learners to demonstrate the advanced skills, knowledge and understanding required to manage complex construction contracting operations effectively and efficiently.
  • Enables learners to demonstrate occupational competence through practical application in real workplace contexts such as team performance management, condition surveys, tendering and procurement, project design coordination, supply-chain partnerships, cost control, programme development, health & safety systems, and stakeholder relationship management.
  • Provides opportunities to specialise through a structured combination of mandatory and optional units that reflect the breadth of construction contracting operations management.

Course achievements are not theoretical. Learners will compile a comprehensive digital portfolio of workplace-generated evidence. Typical items include:

  • Project plans, programmes of works and procurement schedules
  • Tender documents, valuations, interim and final accounts
  • Condition survey reports and investigation briefs
  • Team performance records, meeting minutes and decision logs
  • Risk assessments, method statements and health & safety improvement plans
  • Witness statements, professional discussions, assessor observations and reflective accounts

All evidence is mapped directly to the relevant Learning Outcomes and Assessment Criteria. This qualification bridges the gap between extensive practical experience and formal recognition of management competence. It enables learners to validate and enhance their existing expertise while remaining fully employed, without the need for off-site training or disruption to site operations.

Delivery & Support +

This qualification is delivered via our online platform and mobile app for real-time evidence upload, tracking and feedback.

You will use records of work as evidence to build a digital portfolio that maps directly to the requirements of the qualification. This evidence can come from work over the last 2-3 years, or from projects that are ongoing. We simplify this process with clear, jargon-free written and video guidance. Your assessor will support you in selecting evidence that will meet each unit’s Learning Outcome.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is fully supported. Learners with substantial existing evidence (e.g. previous projects, CPD records, prior NVQs) may claim credit against units. Your assessor will review this during induction and map it to the relevant performance and knowledge criteria.

Course Structure and Units +

To achieve the NOCN Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations Management (Construction), you must complete all 5 mandatory units and at least 4 optional units (minimum total of 9 units).

Units are fully competency-based and assessed entirely through authentic workplace evidence. Your assessor will guide unit selection during induction to best match your current role and experience.

All units are fully mapped to the qualification’s performance and knowledge criteria. Your personalised assessment plan (created during induction) will show exactly which evidence is required for each unit and how evidence can be shared across multiple units to reduce workload. Full unit-by-unit breakdown, evidence checklists and templates are provided in our Portfolio Guide and Completion Toolkits located on our online platform.

Assessment +

Assessment on this qualification is designed to be practical, fair and supportive. There are no exams. Instead, you will build a portfolio of real evidence from your day-to-day work. This can include workplace documents, witness statements, assessor observations and professional discussions.

Everything you submit must be your own work. We use straightforward checks, such as short video submissions and plagiarism tools, simply to protect the integrity of the qualification and ensure fairness for everyone.

Each unit is assessed on a Pass / Not Yet Competent basis. This means the focus is on helping you reach the required standard rather than ranking you against others. If something needs more work, your assessor will give clear feedback and support you to get it right.

You will have a dedicated assessor throughout your qualification who will guide you, review your evidence and provide constructive feedback. All assessment is also internally verified to maintain high standards. If you need any reasonable adjustments or special considerations, these are available in line with NOCN and our own policies — just let us know and we will support you.
